I bought the lavender essential oil and it smelled like turpentine oil. Is it the actual smell of lavender oil?
I bought the lavender oil from a brand which makes cosmetics for aromatherapy

It's supposed to smell like lavender.

Well, did you buy a reliable essential oil which can be taken internally or is it an oil for burning in the room? The quality is very different and some manufacturers make dubious blends.

In addition, there are five different types of lavender oil on the market and they are all different. One should always go by the latin name as they can have widely different properties

    Lavendula angustifolia (or Lavendula vera)
Lavendula burnatii reydovan (not the true lavender but anti-viral)
Lavendula burnatii super (not the true lavender either)
    Lavendula latifolia cineolifera (anti-viral)
Lavendula stoechas - which is neurotoxic and abortive if taken too long, but used anyway with cautious as it is very effective in certain types of infections and ear infections.

So, to say you bought Lavender essential oil is too little information. Hope you didn't buy the neurotoxic.

You probably purchased a cheap version of lavender oil known as lavender 40/42. It's smells horrible in my opinion. Try a more reputable essential oil company and make sure it's 100% pure lavandula angustifolia or Bulgarian lavender essential oil. It 's scent is sweeter more floral.
